Gibson siblings are influential in the U11 first Win

Tonight saw the U11 first victory in the League over Blythe CC. Blythe batted first and within the first two overs a wicket was taken by Jess Reason. Following that a few good overs in particular George Gibson in his debut game completed a maiden over in his first over and took a wicket in his second. Although bowling was tight a few too many wides sneaked in and Blythe ended their innings on a total of 36. However with the 5 wickets off  Blythes net score was 11. Caverswall felt confident going into bat. George Gibson and Sam Barker the only U9 to play this evening opened the innings and with super confident running ended their 4 overs on 21. George in particular hit 10 not out!  Next pair held onto the lead which saw a fantastic 4 hit by Oliver Hulme. Next pair in took the batting to another level and put 30 runs on the board, James Gibson after feeling the pressure of his younger brother doing so well stepped up To the challenge and finished on 23 not out. The final pair steered the ship home with no loss of wicket and Caverswall took the win by 59 runs.
An excellent team performance by all and in particular to the Gibson brothers.

U9 V Moddershall

The U9's played against Moddershall in the subsidiary cup on Saturday. The result was a first win for the U9s and was done in spectacular fashion. Caverswall went out to bat feeling confident  the first pair scored a total of 16, Sam Barker scoring 6 -1 and Sam Wainwright 10 not out. Pair two were Lucas Stones and Toby Rose, Lucas scoring 8-1 and Toby 9-0. Things already looking good got a lot better when Lewis Wright and Ruben Brammer came to the cease. U11- V Hemheath b

The U11s played their first game against Hemheath at home on Monday evening. Skipper James Gibson won the toss and elected to bowl, this was the first hard ball game for 7 of the players so it was always going to be tough. The first 2 overs started well with only 6 runs from it, however Razzaq got his eye in and finished on 20 not out.  The second pair to come to the crease moved the score further with Atkinson 27 not out. Half way mark Hemheath were 260-0. Some super bowling from Jess and Ed kept the score from increasing, and our first wicket came in the 14th over from skipper James Gibson. Hemheath finished their innings on 286 minus the 5 for the wicket leaving a grand total of 281.
Caverswalls batting innings didn't get off to the best of starts with two early wickets however tonights  game was a learning curve, a starting point of where to progress to. The next four batsman struggled to get the ball of the square. The final pair (the big guns)  came to the crease and put on 14 between them, James Gibson scoring 6 not out and Tom Bunn 8 not out. Caverswalls innings closed on 226 minus the 35 for the loss of wickets giving a grand total go 191.
Unfortunately the teams first loss but a fantastic effort by all who played.

Senior results - May 3rd

The 1st X1 played away at Oulton.  Caverswall batted first and an early run out for Greg Phillips wasn't the best of starts, things didn't get much better with the top 3 failing to score anywhere near there capabilities. Naz Ali provided some substance but only managed 18 before been bowled by R Spruce. K Crawford top scored with 19 but failed to convert into more. Chris Baranowski and Tom Caton made attempts to prolong the innings with a further 80 balls but the inevitable was in sight and Caverswall were bowled out for 102.
Not leaving the bowlers much to play with it was always going to be a struggle with an Oulton team feeling confident. Unfortunately Caverswall failed to pick up any wickets but just to mention the excellent bowling figures from Chris Baranowski 5 overs 0-3.
Oulton secured 20 points and Caverswall gained 2 points.

The 2nd X1 played at home to Sandyford, the first wicket for Caverswall came early with an excellent run out by Paul Jolley, after losing their first wicket Sandyford stood strong and with 80 more runs on the board, this was until John Cookson made a break through. Kieron Harrison managed 75 before his wicket was taken  by Aziz. Sandyfords middle order and tail didn't hold up well and with further run outs, Sandyford finished the overs on 154-8.
Caverswall went out to bat and losing Elliot Wright early on was surely not a sign of things to come!!! John Cookson and Islam had other ideas and the runs started to tick over before Cookson was caught behind for 14. Islam continued his good form and reached 76 which put the team in a positive position. Akhtar and Champ steered the ship home for the remaining 58 runs.
Caverswall gained 20 points with Sandyford managing 5 points.

Senior Results

Not a huge success for either senior teams today. Completed first were the 2nd X1 bowled out for 58, Knypersley easily totaled the score for 0 wickets. Turning up with 10 players and been rolled over so easily is not a great start to the season but onwards and upwards, bring on Crewe in the cup tomorrow.

The 1st X1 bowled first against Endon, a few early wickets brought hope however a monster innings by Tom Latham (86 from 90 balls) put a dampener on caverswalls spirits. The scored quickly went to 223 all out. N Ali achieved 4-56, also playing a part C Baranowski 2-63 and M Aktaar 2-38.
After a short rain spell Caverswall took to the crease but it wasn't long before wickets began to fall, opening bowler D Bailey took out tariq and Edge.  Time at the crease was what was needed for the middle order however A Sheeran had other ideas with 5-27. G Phillips managed 41 but was unsupported with runs by his team mates and Caverswall finished 129 All out of 41 overs.

2nd X1 - 0 points
1st X1 - 8 points

Good luck to 2 X1 V Crewe in the Talbot shield tomorrow 1pm Start
